Marin County, CA – BEAR DEVELOPMENT TEAM is proud to announce that Julia Violich has joined the team.  Violich joins Stu Bone, in partnership, at the helm of the BEAR program.

In describing his new partner, Bone says: “Julia has a massively successful track record as a racer and a coach.  Most importantly, she’s great with the kids.   Spend any amount of time with her and the girls she coaches and you’ll see that there is a real connection there.  She’s a mentor and friend to them.  She inspires me in that way.  She’s also been my friend for over 10 years.  We’re humbled and honored by her willingness to invest her time, expertise, experience and relationships into this program.  BEAR team riders will benefit greatly from her leadership.  I’m stoked to have such a fun, dynamic, experienced, positive, connected and resourceful partner.  The only question now is what are we going to re-name BRO CAMP in 2013?”

Violich has been riding bikes for 18+ years. She raced professionally in the US and in Europe. Most of her professional racing was in the endurance discipline.  A wife and mother of two, she now races in the expert masters category.  A three-time masters US National Champion, she also placed 2nd at the World Championships in her age category in 2008.  She will be heading to South Africa in 2013 hoping to claim her world championship title.

When asked about her move to BEAR, Violich had this to say: “I am very excited to join forces with Stu Bone and co-direct the Bear Development Group.  I think we have a very solid development model to employ.  Not only will these kids progress as riders, but also as individuals.  Stu and I bring complimentary strengths to the team.  I see our partnership as a very positive influence in Junior Development, not just in California, but nation wide.”

Violich is dedicated to training and coaching juniors.  She coached the Redwood High School MTB team for the past 12 years.  She also coached the Branson High School Team for 2 years.  Recently she was the Assistant Director for the Whole Athlete Specialized Development Team coaching juniors at the Elite Level.  She is also the finance director and one of the founders of the Twenty12 professional women’s development team.  Violich was a member of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition Board of Directors for 6 years and is currently on their Board of Advisors.  She serves on the USA Cycling Development Foundation Board.
